How to use JapanCalc

01
Download & Open

Get JapanCalc on Google Play and open it. No account, no sign-up — you're ready in seconds.

02
PRICE — Currency Conversion

Type any yen amount and see it instantly in your home currency, with one-tap switching between Shopping 10% and Take-out 8% tax. Works offline; rates refresh automatically whenever you're online.

03
ASK — Ask Anything About Japan

Type any question — "I'm at Nagoya Station, where's good ramen near me?" — and AI answers with specifics for where you're standing. Tipping, tattoos, etiquette: ask away.

04
HOW TO RIDE — Train Rescue

Four sub-features in one tab: the AI Route Finder between any two stations, 🆘 Trouble? for instant answers at the ticket gate, IC Card (Suica / PASMO) guides, and Transfer help.

05
MY TRIP — Your 30 Days

A Day X / 30 countdown, plus a feeling stamp and a short note each day. On your trip's final day, tap "Your Japan Story" and AI turns everything you kept into one story. Your diary stays on your device.

Frequently asked questions

PRICE works fully offline — currency rates are cached from your last online session. The AI features (ASK, and Route Finder / 🆘 Trouble? in HOW TO RIDE) need an internet connection.

Fetched from a public exchange rate API, updated automatically when connected.

There's no account, and your MY TRIP diary stays on your device. When you use the AI features (ASK, HOW TO RIDE), your question — including your location, when relevant — is sent to Google's Gemini API to generate the answer. See the Privacy Policy for details.

It's a one-time $4.99 purchase — no subscription. Refunds are handled via Google Play within 48 hours of purchase.

IC cards (Suica, PASMO) are rechargeable transit cards. Tap in, tap out — highly recommended for getting around Japan.

Anything about Japan. Because ASK can use your current location, questions like "I'm at Nagoya Station — good ramen nearby?" get specific, local answers, not generic lists.

Open HOW TO RIDE → Route tab → enter your departure and destination stations. AI generates the route with transfers, travel time, fare, and rush-hour tips.

On the final day of your trip, a button appears in MY TRIP. Tap it, and AI weaves your 30 days of stamps and notes into a single story — a farewell letter from your own journey.

8 languages: English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, French, Spanish, and Arabic (RTL supported).

Force-close the app and reopen it. If the issue persists, use the contact form below — please include your device model and what you were doing when it happened.

JapanCalc explains the difference between Nozomi/Hikari/Kodama, reserved vs unreserved seats, which IC cards work on which lines, and how to book with the JR Pass or EX-IC app.

On some lines — the Tokaido Shinkansen requires EX-IC or a paper ticket. JapanCalc's HOW TO RIDE tab explains which routes accept IC cards and which require separate booking.
