Privacy Policy

Overview

JapanCalc is designed to collect as little as possible. The app requires no account, and we do not keep your personal information on our servers beyond what is needed to answer your AI queries. Your MY TRIP diary — daily stamps, notes, and photos — stays on your device.

JapanCalc does use a small number of third-party services to function: Google Play (distribution and purchase), Google AI / Gemini (the AI behind ASK and HOW TO RIDE), an exchange rate API, and affiliate partners. When you use the AI features, your query — including your current location, when relevant — is sent to Google's Gemini API to generate the answer. Each service is described below.

Data We Access

• LOCATIONGPS / Location Data

  JapanCalc may access your device's location to provide the AI features in ASK and HOW TO RIDE. When you use these features, relevant location information is sent to our AI service provider (Google Gemini API) so the response can reflect where you are — for example, recommending restaurants near your current station. Transmission is encrypted, and we do not retain this location data on our servers beyond the time needed to generate the response. Offline features such as PRICE never use or transmit your location.

• LOCAL STORAGETrip Diary & Records

  Your MY TRIP diary — daily stamps, notes, records, and photos — is stored only on your device. It is not uploaded to our servers or shared with third parties. Deleting the app deletes this data.

• NETWORKExchange Rate API

  The app fetches currency rates from a public exchange rate API. These requests contain no personal information — only the currency pair being requested.

• NETWORKAI / Gemini API

  When you use ASK or HOW TO RIDE (Route Finder, 🆘 Trouble?, IC Card, Transfer), your question — including your current location, when relevant to the answer — is sent to Google's Gemini API to generate the response. Transmission is encrypted; no name, email, or advertising identifier is included, and we do not retain these queries on our servers beyond response generation.

Data We Do Not Collect

  JapanCalc has no sign-up. We never ask for, or store, your identity.

• NONEDevice IDs or advertising identifiers

  We do not read or transmit advertising IDs or device fingerprints.

• NONECrash reports

  We do not run our own crash reporting. (Google Play may provide aggregate, anonymized crash statistics as part of its standard platform services.)

• NONEPayment information

  Your purchase is handled entirely by Google Play. We never see your card number or billing details.

Third-Party Services

• Google Play

  Distribution and one-time purchase processing. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

• Google AI / Gemini

  Generates the answers for ASK and HOW TO RIDE (Route Finder, 🆘 Trouble?, IC Card, Transfer) from the questions you send — which may include your current location when you use those features. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

• Affiliate Partners (Airalo, Wise, Klook)

  The app's Settings screen contains optional affiliate links to travel services. If you tap one, you leave the app and the partner's own privacy policy applies. JapanCalc shares no data with these partners — the links are plain outbound links.

This website (japancalc-lp.vercel.app) uses Google Tag Manager / Google Analytics to measure anonymous page traffic.

Your Rights

JapanCalc has no accounts and keeps no server-side profiles — your trip data lives on your device, and AI queries are not retained on our servers beyond response generation, so there is nothing for us to export, correct, or delete on your behalf. To erase your on-device data, simply delete the app.
